Oh sista, while I have enjoyed all your writings thus far, this one had me in about tears. Partly because I too have a counter (or maybe more, and a few drawers) that are exactly like this...I was more so entertained because I too have a 6 year old sassy little girl that seems to have nooooo problem telling me about myself while one hand is on the hip, the other is extended with her finger waving about at me and her neck is rolling back and forth in time with the words coming out of her mouth. Unfortunately for my little girl, she has yet to realize that she got that particular act from me, and therefore has no affect on me like she thinks it does. In fact, it usually has the same affect that it did with your daughter, all that act buys her is a ver swift trip to her room and out of reach of my own extended hand. It also serves for her to be out of sight of my proud mommy face, cause while her sassiness drives me insane sometimes, I hope that she never loses it and will always be able to stand up for herself, something it took me a lot longer to master than I'd care to admit!

That's super cute. You could also tell him that Europeans tend to like organ meat of the suspicious variety: hearts, livers, tongues, stomachs. They have fancy names for these thing in order to make the habit more, shall we say, palatable. But a sweet bread is just a fancy name for a pituitary gland and a tongue, once boiled looks just like you'd think a calves tongue would look, all pink and sweet and just wrong on a plate.
Them Europeans, practically cannibals.

Brenda,
I, too, have been reliving my past, and so when Jennifer and I found our pasts bumping up against each other, I was lucky to have her support. I find that the good currents are taking over now that I am allowing the bad ones to take their course.

Jennifer,
Beautifully put.

It's lovely and truthful. I've always talked about old memories "bubbling up" so I suppose I rely on a water analogy too.

This was sadly beautiful Jennifer. I am a big believer that the good will will out over the sad or frightening or horrible. I think it is true that our past is just under the surface - it is there to remind us - keep us humble or thankful. Nice post - take care. Kellan

I'm not sure we ever truly digest anything. It all just sits there, deep in the bowels of our subconscious. Some if it is regurgitated every now and again, and some of it remains trapped down there, emitting the occasional burble and a trace of gas. We are everything that's come before.
How's that for an analogy...history as partially digested food? Yours was better, beautiful even. I catch your drift.

I'm sorry for the challenges, but hope that writing will steer it in a light direction.
